Billy Black’s Djirrimari

Billy paints Djirrimari (land goanna) from his country Ngangalala. Djirrimari can be found sitting on trees, hollow logs and inside holes. People hunt this goanna for food, they’re good tucker, very delicious to eat like other meats you can find in Arnhem Land. When Yolngu hunt for goanna they will catch them alive, dig a hole to keep them in overnight so they stay cool and fresh for eating the next day. Djirrimari is a bit bigger than Djarka (freshwater goana).
